Study Shows A Decline In Teen Suicide Attempts Since Same-Sex Marriage Became Legal Nationwide!

The opening question for a study published in JAMA Pediatrics was “Are state same-sex marriage policies associated with a reduction in adolescent suicide attempts?”

That’s actually a great question, but the findings are much greater. The research discovered that there has been a decline in teen suicide attempts in the United States ever since same-sex marriage became legal.

Actually, the biggest impact was found among bisexual, gay, and lesbian youth. Another finding was that the most declines appeared in the states that passed same-sex marriage laws prior to the Supreme Court’s ruling to make it legal nationwide!

Researchers are saying that although there is no definite connection, policy makers should still be aware of how certain policies have potential to stunt or help the youth’s mental health.

So who/what was used in this research? Well, over 700,000 public high school students supposedly participated in government surveys based on risky youth behavior between 1999 and 2015.

Roughly 230,000 of those students claimed to be gay, lesbian or bisexual.
