Over the past few months, we have noticed actress #GaboureySidibe’s shrinking frame as she began her weight-loss transformation last year. Anyone’s decision to get healthy is great, however Sidibe has always insisted that she was happy with the skin she was in, so why did she decide that it was time for a change?
Well, the 33-year-old actress recently revealed to #PEOPLE that she decided to get laproscopic bariatric surgery after both she and her brother were diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. “I just didn’t want to worry,” the Empire actress said. “I truly didn’t want to worry about all the effects that go along with diabetes. I genuinely [would] worry all the time about losing my toes.”
In Sidibe’s new memoir, This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare, she goes into further detail about why she chose to have surgery. “The surgery wasn’t the easy way out,” she writes. “I wasn’t cheating by getting it done. I wouldn’t have been able to lose as much as I’ve lost without it.” Later, she adds, “I did not get this surgery to be beautiful. I did it so I can walk around comfortably in heels. I want to do a cartwheel. I want not to be in pain every time I walk up a flight of stairs.”
