#TSRDumpItOrBumpIt: Big K.R.I.T – “4eva Is A Mighty Long Time”

Okay, #Roommates, we talked about some of the most anticipated albums of the year, and a lot of you agreed that Big K.R.I.T. was undoubtedly on the list. So now that “4eva Is A Mighty Long Time” is out, I thought it was a good time to discuss what the hype in the comments was all about! I knew when he dropped the album’s first single, “Confetti” exactly what the tone would be and he DELIVERT!

As some of y’all know, “4IAMLT” serves as K.R.I.T.’s first album as an independent artist. If Y’all also know K.R.I.T.’s music journey, Y’all know why this project is so pivotal and detrimental to K.R.I.T.’s run in the game or lack thereof — as he so eloquently expresses multiple times. One of K.R.I.T.’s things is creative control—being able to say what he not only wants but needs to say. Going independent means his lyrical censorship has basically no limits. He took full advantage on this double digit-double disc project.

Aside from it being a funky, yet soulful project, you can witness the process. What I mean by process is, you can tell that his two-year hiatus was more so silent working — and it speaks loud on this album! You can feel two years worth of artistic maturation, industry growth, growth in industry knowledge and experience with him. Seriously, down to the beats, you can tell that K.R.I.T is taking no chances on being a mediocre artist. In short, it’s a maturation album. He said, Y’all wanna play? Then let’s go!”

A challenge K.R.I.T accepted when he released this album at this specific time in music, AND as an independent artist was risky, beloved! As risky as that was, it’s safe to say it also came right on time! Y’all know the music gawds drop off gems every once and again. He said it all in one line: “Look how they hate me but copy me. Possibly, I was the one with components and properties to be the greatest of all time, but you won geography lottery so…”

I’ll leave you with this, no, K.R.I.T. isn’t the face of a major or even popular city; but his presence is not to be taken lightly. If you’re already a fan, let’s appreciate this album together, if not, think about what K.R.I.T said in the last quoted lyric, and give the album a chance. I guarantee you’ll bump it twice!
