80 Beachgoers Form A Chain To Save A Family From Drowning

A family has 80 beachgoers to thank for saving their lives this weekend. Roberta Ursrey noticed that her sons had swam too far away from the shore and brought a few other relatives to help her. Unfortunately, they got caught in a rip current and nine people found themselves trapped in 15-foot deep water.

“I honestly thought I was going to lose my family that day,” Ursrey said. “It was like, ‘Oh God, this is how I’m going.’” Thankfully, other beach attendees ran over to their rescue and formed an 80-person human chain in the water. Beginning with the boys, these people were able to guide everyone back to shore safely

Ursrey tells The Panama City News Herald that she is “so grateful.”

“These people were God’s angels that were in the right place at the right time,” she said. “I owe my life and my family’s life to them. Without them, we wouldn’t be here.”

Roommates just in case you didn’t know, if you’re ever caught in a rip tide ALWAYS swim PARALLEL to the beach! You’ll be able to get around it and swim to safety.
