Private School For LGBT Youth Is Opening In Atlanta

Imagine if you were growing up and you considered yourself a part of the LGBT community and every time you turned around society told you it was wrong to be the way you are. Well, the youth growing up in the LGBT community shouldn’t have to fear to be different anymore.

Expected to open in September 2016, a private school named Pride School Atlanta, will be a school dedicated to allowing “kids have full permission to be themselves — as well as educators,” says Christian Zsilavetz who is the founder of the school and who is also transgender!

Now, while the school is not the first school dedicated to LGBT, it is one of the first that has ever been in the Southeast of the United States. Ross Murray who is the Program Director for global and U.S. South, for gay rights group GLAAD, feels as if that students “…should be able to stay in their homes, their communities.” He continues, I think having a school like this in Atlanta … it means it’s much more regionally connected. If a student does need a place where they can be safe from bullying, from peers who want to harass or harm them, they’re not going to have to travel tons of distance to do that.”

The institution will hold students from K-12 and tuition is around $13,000. Financial aid is available. It will also be have the structure of a performing arts school, which is basically allowing students to be who they are creatively drive the will to learning.

The LGBT community is taking strides and they are not apologizing for it at all.
