Ariana Grande Is Set To Receive Manchester’s First Honorary Citizenship

Last month 23 people were killed and many others were injured in a bombing following an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.

Devastated by the incident Ariana Grande used her voice and platform to help those who were affected by putting on her One Love Manchester benefit concert. Now Manchester is honoring Ariana with an honorary citizenship.

According to Variety, Grande will be the first person to ever receive this honorary citizenship for her “great many selfless acts and demonstrations of community spirit.”

This is a part of a new system that is recognizing those from outside of Manchester, who have contributed to the city in a major way.

Manchester City Council Leader, Sir Richard Leese said, “We’ve all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May, with love and courage rather than hatred and fear.”

He continued, “Ariana Grande exemplified this response. I think many people would already consider her an honorary Mancunian and we would be delighted, if the council approves the proposal, to make it official.”

Ariana’s One Love Manchester concert featured big names such as Kary Perry, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams and many others, and was able to raise $2.6 million to help the victims of the Manchester attacks.
