Ava DuVernay Is Working On A Prince Documentary For Netflix

Ava DuVernay already has her eyes set on her next project. This time around she will be working on a Prince documentary for Netflix.

According to Variety, the documentary will cover the late singer’s entire life and already has the cooperation from Prince’s estate, which is providing “interviews, archival footage, photos, and archive access.”

DuVernay expressed her excitement about working on the project and said, “Prince was a genius, a joy and a jolt to the senses. He was like no other. He shattered preconceived notions, smashed boundaries, and shared his heart through his music. The only way I know how to make this film is with love and great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful.”

A release for the film has not been announced just yet, but DuVernay has been working on the project for several months. In the meantime, viewers can look forward to her highly anticipated series, “The Central Park Five,” which is premiering on Netflix in 2019.

Back in 2017, DuVernay received an Oscar nomination for her Netflix documentary 13th, which explores the “intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the United States.”

DuVernay also received praise for her directorial skills on the 2014 film “Selma.” Earlier this year she directed the Disney film “A Wrinkle In Time.,” which stars Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and Reese Witherspoon.
