#BlackBoyMagic: Police Shooting Survivor Leon Ford Running For City Council

Roommates, do y’all remember Leon Ford? He was paralyzed after being shot by Pittsburgh Police during a wrongful traffic stop six years ago. Leon did not let his situation keep him down. He put on his activist hat and began to push for change. His journey has landed him as a Pittsburgh City Council candidate for the 2019 Primaries.
His announcement came this morning. We hear that his decision to run for public office is not a direct result of his shooting, but the killing of 17-year-old Antwon Rose II back in June. Following the shooting, Leon received his political awakening.
He told The Incline, “I’m tired of protesting and showing up at community meetings where the decisions are already made. They hear our voices but they’re not listening,” he said. “So I’m going to take my seat at the table so I can be the voice on the inside speaking for those on the outside.”

Leon plans to host a campaign kickoff on November 11th at Repair The World in Pittsburgh, Pa.
