Browns’ Player Seth DeValve Took A Knee During The National Anthem, Because He Says He ‘Will Be Raising Children That Don’t Look Like Me’

Yesterday, we shared a picture from the Monday night preseason football game between the #ClevelandBrowns and the #NYGiants where 12 Browns players knelt in protest of the national anthem. One of those players was Seth DeValve. Seeing as he is a white man, he explained his stance to Cleveland.Com and it all has to do with the children he and his wife will have one day.

“The United States is the greatest country in the world. It is because it provides opportunities to its citizens that no other country does,” DeValve began. “The issue is that it doesn’t provide equal opportunity to everybody. We wanted to draw attention to the fact that there’s things in this country that still need to change.”

One of those things is racial inequality and DeValve, who is married to a black woman, decided to protest in an effort to be proactive since he will one day become a father of black children. “I myself will be raising children that don’t look like me, and I want to do my part as well to do everything I can to raise them in a better environment than we have right now,” he continued.
