Can’t Beat ‘Em, Blackball ‘Em? Local Schools Refuse To Play Against Black Baltimore High School Football Team, Says Players Are Too Big & Strong

Hey, Roommates! There’s a situation brewing between a star football team in Baltimore and we want your opinion!

So, boom. The St. Frances Academy Panthers football team’s season has been cut short after opponents from other schools have decided to stop playing against them. They play in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference and other coaches in the league say that the boys on SFA are too big, too strong and too skilled to play against their boys.

St. Frances principal Dr. Curtis Turner told The @BaltimoreSun he believes that the other teams’ decisions are racially motivated. You see, Saint Frances Academy is a predominately black school. It was founded in 1828 as the Saint Frances School for Colored Girls and was originally intended for the children of slaves.

Coaches from the other schools list safety concerns as the reason for their withdrawals and deny that race plays a factor.

Now, the Panthers will be playing an independent schedule with schools from “Florida, New York, Ohio, Virginia and Connecticut as well as four teams from Canada,” according to the Baltimore Sun.

What are your thoughts, Roommates?
