We know Chrissy Teigen for many things, whether it’s serving looks on magazine covers, hosting some of our favorite shows, or clapping back at haters and putting them in their place.
Recently, the supermodel opened up to Cosmopolitan about her struggle with alcohol.
While preparing to host an event, Teigen opened up to the magazine and said, “I was, point blank, just drinking too much. I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine. Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show. And then I felt bad for making kind of an ass of myself to people that I really respected.”
She continued, “You feel horrible. It’s not a good look for me, for John, for anybody.”
Teigen shared that there’s a history of alcohol abuse in her family and she always viewed herself as a person who, “can’t just have one drink.” On top of already taking medications for postpartum depression and anxiety, she began to worry.
“I knew in my heart it wasn’t right. It makes you very short with people,” said Teigen.
During her summer traveling, Teigen attended a wellness retreat in Bali where she eliminated alcohol and was able to get herself on track. She reflected on the experience and said, “I would wake up feeling amazing. My skin felt amazing. I was just so happy.”
Moving in a better direction Teigen said, “I used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober, but now I get it. I don’t want to be that person. … I have to fix myself.”
During the interview, she also revealed that she and her husband John Legend would soon try to have another child, which recently led them to focus on traveling.
“We’re going to try to have a child. This is for us to try to get in the zone of ‘let’s travel, let’s be away together, let’s see our closest friends,’ and then we’re going to have to do something super hard, which is the IVF process, all over again.”
