First Response Releases A Bluetooth Pregnancy Test!

Think you’re pregnant? There’s an app for that. The good old fashioned pregnancy test has gone mobile! According to USA Today, First Response has coined the first Bluetooth pregnancy test and app!
At-home pregnancy tests have served as a liaison between women and either their anxiety and or excitement. First Response’s objective with the Pro Digital & App Access Bluetooth test is to “calm nerves and give a woman a personalized experience throughout the entire process.” What’s more personal than  utilizing what is glued to our hands anyway –our phones?
So how does it work?!
Well first and foremost, no more second guessing if the test is defective or not. The app is supposed to let the woman know upon initiation if it’s a good one and then gives instruction on how to properly proceed.
Once she removes the test from the rapper, it automatically turns on but then she has to the push the assigned button to sync the stick with the app. As of now the free app is only offered on iPhone and Android devices, but we can imagine the possibility expanding to other device stores.

Now the fun part! She gets to do her duty (take the test) and play the waiting game. The next three minutes is the time that can potentially change her life so undoubtedly it’s filled with a plethora of emotions and “what ifs?.” During that time, the app will indicate when the stick detects the first sample. This feature is named very important, Group Brand Manager Wendy Bishop says, because many women often worry whether or not they supplied enough for the most accurate read.
Moving along in the process, the app, which is personalized by each woman based on her potential decision responses, not only counts down that 3-minute waiting period, but also offers content to her. She has the option to explore the “Educate Me,” “Entertain Me,” or “Calm Me” options. So for example, by clicking “Calm Me,” most likely she’ll get some breathing techniques or will be able to listen to meditation music.
The results, like on a regular test will be readily available BUT it won’t just pop up on the screen, in order to preserve the woman’s privacy, the woman will be designated a code –sort of like a PIN number in order to access her results.
Although the waiting game information that’s tailored to the woman is semi-based on her responses, no personal information is requested as a security measure. However, Bishop says, information from prior tests will be stored in her phone. ”We take privacy very seriously,” Bishop says.

And then When the results are revealed, the app suggests next steps.
So! If the result is positive and the woman pre-indicated that she wanted to be pregnant, the app would say, “congratulations.” And a woman who didn’t want to get pregnant would receive a less cheerful response. We imagine a “congratulations” to be just as fitting but for the sake of less confusions, it will say something simple like, “not pregnant.”
The app keeps getting better. It’s like a one stop mobile shop! After the test results positive, the app provides an estimated due date, suggests some questions she should ask her doctor when she does see one, and then in the future sends reminders for things like prenatal appointments and even offers gestational development updates.
If the test turns out to be negative, the app can, “deliver tips on how a woman who hopes to conceive might improve her chances. She can track her cycle through the app.”
As of now, this new technological test stick closely resembles the prior non-Bluetooth models and is supposed to sell for anywhere between $15 and $22 as opposed to $10 for two non-Bluetooth ones. The purchase of the Bluetooth stick unlocks certain features on the app. Fret not, it will be available this Spring!
