David Swinya, who is a math teacher at Kernan Middle School in Jacksonville, FL has been suspended for 10 days without pay after he reportedly used the n-word multiple times along with other violations.

According to CNN, back in October of 2017, a student told a school board investigator that Swinya and other students were discussing relationships when he reportedly said, “If your boyfriend says bad things to you and/or treats you wrong, that means he’s acting like a n—–.”

According to the student’s testimony, Swinya continued to say, “You all should not be dating all these different African-American boys because they are not worth it.”

In a separate incident that took place in August of 2017, students recalled Swinya using racist marks as well.

According to the investigative report, he said, “If my daughter was dating someone who used the ‘f’ word, I wouldn’t have any respect for that n—–.”

After being confronted by students Swinya reportedly said,  “I would never say that, but if I did, I am sorry.”

The school board later concluded that Swinya made other inappropriate comments, such as calling a student dumb.

On Thursday, the Florida Education Association declined to comment, but they are “opposed to using racial slurs and derogatory language inside or outside the classroom.”

A letter was sent to the school board members, and read:

“Following the employee’s suspension without pay, he will be reassigned to an appropriate district position with no contact with students for the remainder of the year,” said Willis. “As an annual contract employee, Mr. Swinyar’s employment contract with the district expires June 30, 2018. In May, recommendations for contract renewals for all annual employees will be considered.”
