Over the past few months, Hollywood has been rocked by hundreds of sexual harassment claims and the alleged victim’s have been praised for their bravery. Time Magazine even selected the people behind the #MeToo moment as “Person Of The Year.” All of this seems to be news for Mayweather, because during an interview with @MensHealthMag, his responses to questions about the movement were a bit awkward, but some have called them downright distasteful and disrespectful.
During the interview, Men’s Health said, “We’re asking a lot of men, in light of the #MeToo movement, how men can grow in 2018.” Mayweather replied, “The who?” Surprisingly, the boxing champion wasn’t hip to the movement that’s got Hollywood shook right now, so the correspondent explained what it was.
“The #MeToo movement. Women speaking out about sexual assault,” she said. Unfortunately, the conversation took a very drastic turn and Mayweather appeared to make a joke out of ignorance of the subject. “Oh. ’Cause when you say “me too,” my thing was this. When somebody be like, ‘I got a Rolls Royce,’ I be like ‘Me too!’ When somebody say they got a private jet, I say, ‘Me too. I got two. Me too!'” he said.
Even after the correspondent explained that this was a very different “Me too,” Floyd unfortunately went further with his version of “Me too.” “Well, I didn’t know! I didn’t know,” he said. “My ‘Me Too’ movement from the beginning was whenever somebody said what they have I’m like, ‘me too.’ Somebody say they got a billion dollars, I say, ‘I made a billion dollars, me too.’
Eventually, Floyd gave a straight answer. “I think everyone, if you’re in an uncomfortable position, you have to pray about it, you know, talk about it, and I think that, you know, sexual harassment, I don’t think it’s cool at all.”
