Former NFL player Aaron Hernandez was found hanging in his prison cell early Wednesday morning.
According to CNN, the Massachusetts Corrections Department said the 27-year-old was found hanging from a bed sheet attached to a window around 3:05 am at the Souza-Baranowski prison.
In a statement, it read, “Lifesaving techniques were attempted on Mr. Hernandez, and he was transported to UMass Leominster, where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m.”
Hernandez was in his cell alone in a general population wing. The statement continued to state that he “attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items.”
Hernandez was serving a time in prison for a 2013 murder; he was recently acquitted in a separate murder case.
This story is still developing as the Massachusetts Police are investigating his death.
