Harvard Senior Submits Rap Album As Thesis, Gets A-

A Harvard senior has become the first student in the Ivy League school’s history to submit a rap album as a senior thesis in the English Department.

According to the Associated Press, Obasi Shaw’s 10-track album called “Liminal Minds” received an A- grade and he will graduate with honors next week.

“I never thought it would be accepted by Harvard,” said the 20-year-old from Stone Mountain, Georgia. “I didn’t think they would respect rap as an art form enough for me to do it.”

Shaw took more than a year write to record the album he described as a “dark and moody take on what it means to be Black in America.” He told the AP that his friends supplied most of the beats.

For now, Shaw plans to relocate to Seattle where he’s been offered a job at Google as a software engineer.
