Isaiah Thomas of the Boston Celtics is currently mourning the loss of his 22-year-old sister Chyna Thomas.
According to ESPN, Isaiah Thomas received the news of his sister’s accident after he participated in his team’s practice Saturday afternoon. Thomas was talking to a reporter after practice when he was pulled away, and he did not return for any other scheduled media requests.
Police said the accident occurred around 5 a.m., Chyna Thomas’ car reportedly, “drifted onto the left shoulder of the highway and traveled about 50 feet before hitting a large metal pole.”
The Celtics said in a statement, “We are terribly saddened by the tragic loss of Chyna Thomas. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Celtics organization are with Isaiah and his family.”
A source revealed to ESPN, as of Saturday night, Isaiah Thomas plans to play Sunday evening as his team starts the first round of the playoffs against the Chicago Bulls.
Isaiah Thomas’ father, James, reportedly told the Boston Herald he does not know when his son will decide to fly home to Tacoma, Washington to be with the family.
