#Roommates, a woman by the name of Eva Echeverria was recently awarded $417 million after winning a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson. In her suit, she claims her use of the baby powder for decades was a primary cause to her developing ovarian cancer.

According to the NY Times, Eva is just one of thousands of women who are currently suing the consumer product giant with claims that they developed cervical and ovarian tumors, and cancer due to Johnson & Johnson’s signature baby powder. Although only a few lawsuits have gone to trial, sources say most of the decisions have been ruled against the company and in favor of the victims.

A spokeswoman for Johnson & Johnson said the company is looking to appeal the verdict and “will continue to defend the safety of Johnson’s Baby Powder.” The company has also used findings from the National Cancer Institute that says “the weight of evidence does not support an association between perineal talc exposure and an increased risk of ovarian cancer,” in their defense.

#Roommates, what are your thoughts?
