Legendary group Sister Sledge is responsible for some of the most classic hits that you will hear at a family gathering, including, “We Are Family” and “He’s The Greatest Dancer.”
Unfortunately the group has lost one of its founding members.
According to Vibe, Joni Sledge recently passed away at the age of 60. The singer was found unresponsive on Friday in her home in Phoenix, AZ. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
On Saturday the Sledge family confirmed her death and released a statement, which said, “Numbness fell upon our family. We welcome your prayers as we weep the loss of our sister, mother, aunt, niece and cousin, Joni Sledge. We thank you for privacy and prayers during these very difficult times.”
Joni Sledge founded the group along with her sisters Kathy, Kim and Debbie back in back in 1971, releasing their debut studio album in 1975. They would go on to release multiple other albums and continued to dominate the charts throughout the years.
Memorial services for Joni Sledge will be announced next week.
We send our condolences to the Sledge Family during this difficult time.
