Lil Wayne Says He Considered Becoming a Christian Rapper When He Was In Jail

During his 8-month prison sentence at Rikers Island, Lil Wayne considered becoming a Christian rapper. This week, the rapper released the diary he kept while he was locked up and called it #GoneTilNovember. In it, he describes receiving a letter from a church that urged him to use his gifts to spread the gospel.

“I would truly have the power of having pop culture turn to God,” he wrote. “I would have straight killers in church every Sunday.” Later, Wayne would have an epiphany which led him to accept that where he was in life was supposed to be a part of his artistic journey. With that being said, that still doesn’t mean that he won’t ever make gospel music.

Wayne just has more to get off of his chest before making a change as big as that. The day before his release, he wrote about how he always thought that his creativity stemmed from cars, women and money. “Once that was all taken away from me, my creativity was put to the ultimate test,” he writes. “And I passed that (expletive)!”
