Nigerian Billionaire Drops £5 Million On Her Son’s Wedding

Roomies, a Nigerian oil billionaire reportedly dropped £5 million (USD $6.4 million) on her son’s wedding earlier this month. The lavish ceremony took place at Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, where Sir Winston Churchill was born.

The groom, Folarin Alakija, married Iranian model Nazanin Ghaissarifa in front of friends, family and celebrity guests.

His mother, Folorunsho Alakija, is one of the richest black women in the world, with an estimated net worth of $1.61 billion. She is the vice chair of Nigerian oil company Famfa Oil and Forbes ranks her as the 18th richest person in Africa. Folarin is one of her four sons.

According to the Daily Mail, the 66-year-old oil tycoon spared no expense on her son’s fairytale wedding, which had one million white roses, a 12-foot, 8-tier cake, five-course menu, fireworks and a surprise performance by Robin Thicke.

To top it off, the couple had their first dance on a bespoke circular marble floor engraved with their initials in gold, at an estimated cost of $250,000.

This is Folarin’s second walk down the aisle after losing his first wife to cancer six years ago. They had one child, a daughter, together.

The Daily Mail says that Folarin is an entrepreneur, investor, and cinematographer.
