NO AFRICAN AMERICAN NOMINEES FOR 2015 OSCARS?

NO AFRICAN AMERICAN NOMINEES FOR 2015 OSCARS?

For the first time in 17 years not one African American actor/actress was nominated for any of the four acting categories. Not even just African Americans, there were no Latino, Asian-American, or American-Indian actors nominated, just all white actors. The last time this happened was in 1998 when Titantic was out winning all the awards.

This comes as a great blow to David Oyelowo, who plays Martin Luther King Jr. in “Selma”, who many expected would get an Oscar for Best Actor. Even Bradley Cooper snubbed a nomination in that category for his role in “American Sniper”. This is a very different award show from the Oscar Awards last year where three African Americans were nominated in all acting categories including Lupita Nyong’o and Chiwetel Ejiofor for their roles in “12 Years a Slave”.

Even more shocking is Ava DuVernay, who recently broke history for being the first black woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for directing the movie “Selma”, didn’t get a nomination either!

Fortunately “Selma” was able to grab a nomination for Best Picture and John Legend and Common’s “Glory” was nominated for Best Song. Even though diversity seriously lacks at this award show, will you still be watching?
