For The First Time In GRAMMY History No White Male Solo Artists Were Nominated For ‘Album Of The Year’

If you recall, the recording academy received a ton of backlash at this year’s #GRAMMYs after #BeyoncĂ© was snubbed for Album of the Year. Fans and spectators called them out over a lack of diversity and inclusiveness since they felt that Bey’s #Lemonade album was more deserving of the highly coveted title rather than #Adele. Hell, she even thought so!

Fast-forward to today, the GRAMMY nominations were revealed and it looks like the academy heard our public outcries! Considering how dominant black artists were in music this year, I’m enjoying how diverse the nominees are! We have #CardiB representing for the Afro-Latinas and a plethora of black singers and rappers such as #LilUziVert, #SZA and #ChildishGambino just to name a few.

To take this a step further, #KendrickLamar, #ChildishGambino, #JayZ, #BrunoMaes and #Lorde are apart of history today. They are all nominated for the highly coveted #AOTY title and it’s the first time in the 58-year history of the GRAMMYs that no white male solo artist has been nominated for this category!

The last time anything remotely close to this happening was during the 1999 awards ceremony when alternative rock band “Garbage” was nominated. The band’s lead singer is a woman, but includes three men.

Congratulations to all of the nominees!!
