Police in Austin, Texas are warning residents to contact police if they receive an unexpected package! Police believe that a packaged bomb that killed a teenager and severely wounded a woman in Austin on Monday are linked to a similar bombing that killed another man earlier this month. They’re looking into if race played a role in this because all of the victims were black!
According to the Associated Press, police confirmed that the two package explosions are linked.
What’s interesting about this is that the packages were put on the victims’ doorsteps overnight and weren’t sent by a delivery service.
“There are similarities that we cannot rule out that these two items are, in fact, related,” said Austin’s police chief, Brian Manley.
Investigators have yet to figure out why this is happening, but they aren’t ruling race out.
“We don’t know what the motive behind these may be,” Manley said. “We do know that both of the homes that were the recipients of these packages belong to African-Americans, so we cannot rule out that hate crime is at the core of this. But we’re not saying that that’s the cause as well.”
The teen who lost his life was 17. The woman who was servely injured is currently still in the hospital.
