Papa John’s is back in the headlines. Y’all may remember back in January the pizza company’s CEO stepped down after he called out the NFL for not “resolving” the national anthem protests, which he claimed hurt business. Well, now the same guy is in the news again for using the N-word.
According to Forbes, John Schnatter used the offensive racial slur during a company conference call back in May. He said it during a role-playing exercise that was supposed to help prevent future public relations problems but he created just that.
When asked how he would distance himself from racist groups online, Schnatter brought up his comments about the NFL and complained that “Colonel Sanders called blacks n—–s” but he never faced public backlash. That’s what he said and, now of course, he’s sorry.
“News reports attributing the use of inappropriate and hurtful language to me during a media training session regarding race are true,” he said. “Regardless of the context, I apologize. Simply stated, racism has no place in our society.”
