Q-Tip To Teach A Jazz And Hip-Hop Course At NYU

It looks like Q-Tip will throw on his teaching hat as he joins writer Ashley Kahn to teach a Jazz and Hip Hop course at New York University.

According to Billboard, the course, which will be taught this fall at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in the Tisch School of the Arts, will examine the connection between hip-hop and jazz.

As a hip-hop pioneer and the leading member of the legendary group A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip expressed his excitement about teaching the course.

He said, “I couldn’t be more excited to share with the students what I know and I look forward to them also teaching me. Teaching is an exchange of sharing and receiving for all involved.”

The course will consist of seven classes, as they explore groundbreaking hip-hop and jazz music from the 1970’s, 80’s, 90’s and today’s music.

Some of the artists to be discussed during the course include The Last Poets, The Roots, Lauryn Hill, Kendrick Lamar and of course, A Tribe Called Quest.
