It’s January 1st and California is ringing in 2018 on a high note, y’all! Legislators of the biggest state in the U.S. have legalized the recreational use of marijuana for adults 21 and older. Consumers are also permitted to grow up to six plants and possess no more than an ounce at any moment.
There are a few hiccups, though. Firstly, only about 90 businesses have secured licenses to begin their sales today, so it may be difficult to find a retail outlet to purchase your pot. Many cities including Los Angeles and San Francisco were not able to approve local regulations in time to issue state licenses. Fresno, Bakersfield, Riverside and a few other communities have outlawed recreational marijuana sales altogether. Unfortunately these are the least of your worries, my Cali people!
For whatever reason, the federal government STILL classifies weed as a controlled substance and likens it to heroin and LSD. This means that y’all should purchase pot at your own risk, because at a federal level recreational marijuana use is still illegal. So, at the end of the day, the government can still come for ya!
Happy toking, Roommates!
