‘Sorority Sisters’ Reality Star Files A Defamation Lawsuit Against Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

#Roommates, do ya’ll remember VH1’s short-lived reality show “Sorority Sisters”? Back in 2014, it was created to follow the lives of women from four different sororities, however massive backlash from the community shut that down real quick. Folks were not happy to see black Greek-lettered organizations dragged into the world of reality TV, and as a result, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. lost her letters for participating.

The woman, Priyanka Banks, has now lawyered up. According to a federal complaint, she says the organization did nothing to stop the internet backlash fueled against her from the show. And although it was canceled one month after its premiere, she says the scars from her sorority’s reaction still remain. She claims she found out about her expulsion from DST through a “random Facebook posting” and not an official notice.

Priyanka is suing the sorority for negligence, defamation, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, ultra vires act and declaratory relief. She’s being represented by Manhattan attorney Hernandez Rhau and filed her complaint in the Eastern District of New York on Jan. 11, 2018.

She was joined the sorority in 2009 while an undergraduate at Alabama State University.
