Earlier this year we reported about a Texas teen that claimed three black men kidnapped and raped her. She later confessed to police that she made up the entire story.
According to the New York Daily News, 19-year-old Breana Harmon was hit with felony charges for falsely claiming she was kidnapped and raped back in March. She now faces up to 10 years in prison.
Harmon claimed that she was taken to the woods by three assailants in ski masks, and claimed that she was raped by two of the men, while the third held her down. She later ran into a nearby church only wearing a t-shirt, bra, and underwear.
While being examined, a nurse did not find any evidence of sexual assault and the cuts that were on Harmon’s jeans did not match the cuts on her legs.
Harmon later told police “things from her past started going through her head” and she had “began cutting herself and her jeans.” She reportedly faked the assault because she didn’t want her mother to know she cut herself.
Harmon’s fiancé at the time of the alleged assault had given her a pocket knife and pepper spray after she told him about sex trafficking in the area. The two have since broken up and Harmon’s ex wants nothing to do with the situation.
Harmon was indicted on felony charges earlier this week and was charged with tampering with physical evidence and tampering with a government record.
Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown said in a statement, “The more we have looked at what happened in this case and considered the harm it caused, and certainly could have caused, we believe what she did fits these higher charges.”
Harmon was initally hit with a misdemeanor.
Roommates, what are your thoughts?
