The Grammys Will Return To New York City In 2018

Many celebrities have made their way to Los Angeles to attend the Grammy Awards for the past few years, but the award show will return to New York City in 2018.

According to Billboard, the Recording Academy officially announced on Tuesday that music’s biggest night will return to the Big Apple for the first time since 2003. In the past, the show was rotated between New York City and Los Angeles during the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s.

Next year’s award show will mark the 60th anniversary, and it will take place on January 28th, 2018 at Madison Square Garden and air on CBS.

Neil Portnow, the president of the Recording Academy said, “With the East Coast being the home for half the membership of the Academy — certainly there’s a very vibrant, vital part of the music industry on the East Coast and in New York — and given that this is an anniversary year for us, it’s a special chance to celebrate.”

New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio said in a statement, “It is incredibly exciting that Music’s Biggest Night will return to the world’s greatest city. Playing host to the music industry’s marquee awards show is a unique creative, artistic and economic boon to the rich cultural fabric of our city. We welcome the Grammy Awards back to New York City with open arms and we look forward to continuing to partner with a music industry that supports access and empowerment in the arts.”

Spike Lee, Q-Tip, Nile Rodgers, Maxwell, Grandmaster Flash and other musical greats can be seen in a video welcoming The Grammy’s home to New York City for their 60th anniversary.
