Three Mexican Film Students Found Tortured & Dissolved In Acid By A Cartel In Mexico

The remains of three film students who went missing in #Guadalajara last month have been found. According to @SFGate, 25-year-old Javier Salomón Aceves Gastélum and 20-year-olds Marco Garcia Francisco Avalos and 20-year-old Jesús Daniel Díaz, who are being referred to as #LosTresEstudiantesDeCine (the three film students), were mistaken for rival gang members while they were filming a project for class.

They were filming in a home they were told was owned by one of their aunts, however, unbeknownst to them it was actually used as a safe house by a gang known as the “Nueva Plaza” cartel. They rival the Cartel Jalisco New Generation which is known to be the most powerful cartel in Mexico. The young men got caught in the middle of a war between the gangs and were last seen alive being shoved into a car by two armed men dressed as police officers.

After discovering the gruesome scene earlier this week, authorities found that the three men were tortured by at least six people and the state prosecutors office revealed that “their bodies were dissolved in acid so that no trace of them remained.” The discovery has sparked protests and outrage from public figures in the film industry and on social media.

“There are no words to comprehend the magnitude of this madness,” Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro, a Guadalajara native, tweeted. “3 students are killed and dissolved in acid. The ‘why’ is unthinkable, the ‘how is terrifying.”

State prosecutor Raul Sanchez confirmed that two people had been arrested so far in the investigation. We will keep you guys updated as the story develops.
