Top Moments From The 2017 MTV VMAs

Last night the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA’s) went down at The Forum in California, and like every award show, we have to mention some of the shows most memorable moments.

This year’s award show was hosted by Katy Perry and featured tons of performances and moments that still have social media talking.

The first top moment came at the beginning of the show when Kendrick Lamar opened up. The rapper is currently on his DAMN Tour, and he brought a little of that with him to VMA’s as he performed “DNA,” and “Humble.” Throughout the show, he would go on to win a total of six awards, including Video of the Year.

Another highlight of last night’s award show included Paris Jackson as she presented the Best Pop Award. The daughter of the late Michael Jackson made sure to use the platform to speak against white supremacist, following the recent events in Charlottesville.

Jackson said during her speech, “If we were to all stand-up, united, as one, our impact, it would be, huge. Believe me. Huge, and that’s not fake news. So, let’s leave here tonight remembering that we must show these Nazi white supremacist jerks in Charlottesville and all over the country that as a nation with liberty as our slogan, we have zero tolerance for their violence, their hatred, and their discrimination! We must resist.”

Cardi B definitely had one hell of a year after releasing her latest project, and also with the success of her latest single “Bodak Yellow.” She also had an amazing night at this year’s show. She hit the carpet and performed during the pre-show. She also showed love to Colin Kaepernick before introducing the upcoming act. She said, “Colin Kaepernick, as long as you kneel with us, we gonna be standing for you baby.” There is no doubt she was one of the hot topics of the night.

Logic also had a powerful performance during the night as he performed his single “1-800-273-8255.” He performed alongside singers Alessia Cara and Khalid. The rapper used the platform to bring awareness to mental health and equality. During his speech, he said, “I just want to take a moment right now and thank you for giving me a platform to talk about something that mainstream media doesn’t want to talk about: mental health, anxiety, suicide, depression and so much more that I talk about on this album.”

With all of the great moments, we, of course, have to give some recognition to some of the shadiest moments that took place during the show.

One moment that had everyone talking was during Fifth Harmony’s performance. The group hit the stage to perform their single “Down,” and at the very beginning, it looked like they were shading their former member Camila Cabello as five members appeared on stage before one was knocked off. Later Gucci Mane joined the group on stage with his wife, but this performance, in particular, will always be memorable for the group.

Another shady moment that lit up social media involved Remy Ma calling out Nicki Minaj.

Both rappers were in attendance at Sunday’s show so everyone couldn’t help but wonder if the two would cross paths. Nonetheless, while introducing a commercial break with Terrence J, Remy Ma said, “Nicki, what’s good?” We all know the term stemmed from the 2015 VMAs when Nicki called out Miley Cyrus, where she said: “Miley, what’s good?” Therefore, Remy calling out Nicki after the year they’ve had of course caused everyone to go into a frenzy. Nicki Minaj later closed out the show with Katy Perry performing their latest single “Swish Swish.”
