#TSRInspiration:  6 Things Twenty-Somethings Need To Be Reminded Of

So here’s the ugly truth: life isn’t working out how you planned.
Now that that the elephant in the room has been addressed, we want have a little #Roommate pep talk with you! We know all too well the struggles of being twenty-something in 2016. We can relate to the financial aid office giving the run-around about a refund check, playing the waiting game for the job you want, and hoping we won’ t be Bae-less forever. Because we understand and we’ve been there before, we just wanted to remind you of a few things to help you get through your situation.

1. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed.
Being twenty-something is such an awkward age. This is the age where we are constantly reminding ourselves that we aren’t where we want to be just yet; so we often have a tendency to keep working toward it. Quick question, how often do you feel like you’re in a small, compact life boat in the middle of the ocean paddling away from struggle island but holes just keep appearing, allowing the ocean water to consume your boat and then the next thing you know, no matter how many holes you patch, you’re in over your head and seconds away from drowning? Oh and before you know it, you’re closer to struggle island and broke. Consider this: you’re on the right track. Don’t give up; it’s okay to feel this way. It means you’re making waves so keep on paddling!

2. Chivalry isn’t dead –neither is your love life.
So about this whole chivalry thing. We heard it was dead but we have a better suggestion: it just needs to be watered. Sometimes good things get lost in time and unfortunately chivalry is one of those things. BUT don’t give up on a good thing because it’s hard to find. Your person is out there, just be patient. Honey Boo Boo’s mom has a boo, there’s hope for you! Also, because you’re our Roomie and we love you, we have to keep it funky with you! Sometimes your “type” may be the reason you are Skip Bae-less so be open to other options; you don’t want to block your blessings!

3. Some friends are temporary –and that’s okay!
Being twenty-something is all about discovering yourself. It’s your time to be adventurous and lay your foundation for your next chapter in life. Everyone can’t make the cut for your new life. A few red bricks amongst brown ones have the potential to either destroy a foundation or compliment it; if they don’t fit, don’t force it. Accept the change and keep building.

4. Don’t ask for permission. Just do it.
Did you forget that you’re twenty-something? You’re not a kid anymore and you can do everything the grownups said you couldn’t do! In other words, you waited 20+ years to not have to ask for permission for what you want; so what are you waiting for? Go for what you want, unapologetically and like a boss. You might piss some people off but that’s okay too.

5. You won’t be broke forever!

It sure feels like it, doesn’t it? It probably feels like you go to work all day to pay bills for a house that you’re never in because you’re at work paying for it –right? The struggle is definitely real but keep your head up because being broke is temporary –it’s like the twenty-something curse that everyone forgets to tell you about!!

6. Enjoy the struggle.
There goes that struggle word again! Bad news, it was kind of sold to us with the dream of being an adult. struggle Island is pretty much where we reside in our twenties but it’s also where we will learn the most about ourselves, be pushed to get up out of it, and where we learn the most valuable lessons about life. The truth is when you’re twenty-something you’re not going have it all together –and that’s ok. If nothing else, try and enjoy the struggle; it’s a huge part of your story. Consider yourself lost, in the right direction.

All-in-all, enjoy being twenty-something. These are 10 years you will never get back. And remember it’s okay to need some encouragement here and there. It’s also okay to ask questions. Have you ever noticed how people always say, “if I knew then what I know now,…” but then never tell you what they know now? You better get to asking!

Hang in there 🙂
