Common recently surprised a group of Harlem students with a $10,000 donation to help their teachers buy school supplies.
The donation made on Thursday to Harlem’s Renaissance School of the Arts was a joint effort between the rapper, the nonprofit AdoptAClassroom.org and Burlington Stores, the Associated Press reports.
The Oscar and Grammy Winner stopped by the school with his mom Dr. Mahalia Hines, who is an educator and member of the Chicago Board of Education.
In addition to the donation, Common offered up some words of encouragement to the kids, telling them to keep their grades up in school and never give up in life.
