#TSRPositiveImages: Google Gives $1 Million Grant To Increase Representation Of Black Male Youth In Tech!

Google is out here making major moves to help promote more diversity in STEM!

According to a press release, the tech giant recently gave a $1 million grant to The Hidden Genius Project, an Oakland-based non profit that is working to increase representation of black male youth in the tech industry. The funds will help the group train more staff, expand to new cities, and impact more young people who want to pursue careers in tech.

“This work builds on over $35 million in Google.org grants focused on providing opportunities for underrepresented students to become pioneers of technology, and we’re excited to see how The Hidden Genius Project uses this new grant,” Justin Steele, Principal at Google.org, said in a statement. “While we don’t expect all students to pursue a career in tech, we know the skills they learn will serve them well no matter what job ignites their passion.”

The Hidden Genius Project, founded in 2012, was created by five black male entrepreneurs and technologists to “connect young black males with the skills, mentors, and experiences that they need to become high-performing entrepreneurs and technologists in a 21st century, global economy.”
