In what appears to be a coordinated threat, authorities have evacuated #TimeWarnerCenter in #NewYorkCity where #CNN is at and the #SanDiegoUnionTribune where U.S. Senator #KamalaHarris’ offices are housed due to suspected explosive devices.These incidents are being reported following news that suspected bombs were sent to #BarackObama and the #Clintons.
There have been no reports of explosions or injuries but authorities say they are treating the devices they have found as real explosives, according to @CNN. Earlier today we reported that the package sent to the #Obamas was intercepted in #WashingtonDC while the package intended for the Clintons was addressed to them in #WestchesterCounty, New York.
Police are at the scene trying to make sense of it all. “We’ve seen this before. We’ve seen worse. We will not be intimidated and will bring these perpetrators to justice,” said New York Police Commissioner #JamesPONeill at a news conference at #ColumbusCircle. Authorities say suspicious packages have also been sent to former Attorney General Eric Holder, George Soros and John Brennan.
Lily Adams, a spokesperson for Harris, addressed Harris’ offices having to be evacuated.
“Our office was evacuated today after suspicious packages were found near the building. The packages were not addressed to the Senator or our office. We are grateful to the San Diego Police Department for their work to swiftly investigate this issue,” Adams tweeted.
The White House has issued a statement on what officials are calling “attempted violent attacks.”
“We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and other public figures. These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The United States Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating and will take all appropriate actions to protect anyone threatened by these cowards.”
