The Tupac Biopic Lands At Lionsgate And Gets An Official Release Date

The making of the upcoming Tupac biopic, “All Eyez On Me,” has taken some time, but the anticipation continued to grow as fans awaited the announcement of the films official release date.

Recently, Lionsgate obtained the U.S. rights to the film, and they set the official release date.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, after obtaining the rights to the Morgan Creek Entertainment film, Lionsgate announced that the film would hit theaters on June 16th, which would have also been Tupac’s 46th birthday.

The making of the film started back in 2011 when Morgan Creek teamed up with Emmett/Furla/Oasis to make the film, but the film went through a few directors before Benny Boom took on the role.

The film will star, Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac Shakur, and it will cover the success of his career as a rapper, actor, poet and activist before his unfortunate death in 1996.

Back in September, Shipp talked to Complex about what it was like working with Benny Boom on the project, he said, “It was dope working with Benny. He is a guy who really takes his work seriously, all the way, completely, 1,000%.”

He continued, “So, when you got people pushing on all ends and working their best and understanding that we can’t have a mediocre film with this, it’s Tupac, you know what I’m saying? Everybody was on the same page, we were all pushing for the best at every turn.”

Morgan Creek’s James G. Robinson and David Robinson, along with Program Pictures’ LT Hutton all serve as producers for the film.
