Two Girls Shot At End Of The Year School Picnic In Chicago

An end of the year of the year school picnic in Chicago turned into a nightmare when a black van rolled up and started firing shots!

According to Chicago Sun Times, students at Warren Elementary school were making water balloons for a huge water fight when all hell broke loose.

“The kids were running around the playground with water balloons,” 8th grader Khia Shanks said. “I went outside and saw a black van drive by and someone fired about five shots.”

“I ran inside. I was in shock,” she added.

According to police, two of her fellow classmates, ages 7 and 13, were hit.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt said that their injuries aren’t life-threatening. The younger girl was shot in the thigh while the older one was shot in the hand.

“This makes me sick that kids are having an end-of-the-year picnic and they have to get shot at,” Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said.

Police said that the students weren’t the intended targets. There were several former students who weren’t supposed to be at picnic and tried to get in but were turned away by security officers.

Those students apparently stood on a nearby corner and that’s when the black vehicle pulled on them and started shooting. They ended up running back into the picnic “drawing fire into the picnic.”

Police have three “persons of interest” in custody.
