A waitress at a local restaurant in Virginia was expecting to receive a tip from a couple she was serving, but instead was left with a racist message on the tab.
According to ABC 7, the couple wrote, “Great service don’t tip black people.”
Restaurant server Kelly Carter said she was taken back by the message at first and couldn’t believe what she was reading.
Kelly said she had no problems with the couple and even noted that the female customer complimented her on the food.
“The lady was saying they loved the potpie meal,” Carter said.
What’s interesting about this is that Kelly isn’t the reason this story has gone viral. Two of her regular customers who witnessed all of this go down were extremely upset by the incident. They posted the photo of the message on Facebook and by Sunday night the post had been shared over 900 times!
News must travel fast because customers soon began requesting Kelly as their server and are leaving her big tips! Others have stopped by to give her money and show her that she’s appreciated.
Kelly admits that if the couple returns in the future she will treat them just like any other customer, with respect.
“Just me serving them will let them know they did not get the best of me. And I truly mean that,” she said.
