13-Year-Old Boy With Severe Dairy Allergy Passes Away After Classmate Put Cheese Down His Shirt

#Roommates, get into this tragic story. A UK teen with a severe dairy allergy passed away after he was chased down the hallway by a classmate who was holding cheese, who then proceeded to put it down his shirt.

According to the NY Post, Karanbir Cheema, known as Karan, 13, had the allergic reaction back in June 2017 at his school. When paramedics arrived on the scene Karan was unconscious and was taken to the local hospital. He never regained consciousness, and sadly passed away two weeks later.

The 13-year-old boy who put the cheese down his shirt was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but hasn’t been charged.

This truly heartbreaking story was told again Wednesday at the Saint Pancras Coroner’s Court.

Kierien Oppatt was one of the first paramedics on the scene and said the call came in as “just an allergic reaction,” but when he arrived on the scene he knew it was far worse.

“On arrival at the scene, I immediately knew it was life-threatening and that the patient had a high risk of going into cardiac and respiratory arrest,” Oppatt said.

“We were told by school staff that perhaps someone had chased the patient with cheese and had proceeded to throw it down his T-shirt,” Oppatt continued. “That he had an allergic reaction, that he was itchy, his skin was very hot, and that he was having difficulty breathing.”

“He appeared to be in a state of pre-arrest. He had very slow respiration — he was gasping for air. His skin was red and there appeared to be hives.”

Karan’s family was present at the hearing and his mom didn’t hold back.

“I am devastated as a mother after losing my son and my family have lost their brother,” she said.

“He was a very, very bright young boy. He was so bright, he could have been anything he wanted. I brought him up by myself. I trained him to read all about his condition.”
