Leticia Rodriguez, a 17-year-old Georgia teen, has been charged after she allegedly gave birth and attempted to bury her newborn son in a backyard.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Rodriguez has been taken to a hospital to receive medical attention. Once she is released from the hospital, she will reportedly be taken into custody at the Cobb County Jail. Additionally, WSB-TV reports that she will be held without bail.
Furthermore, per Fox 5 Atlanta, Rodriguez has been charged with “concealing a death, throwing away or abandonment of dead body and abuse of dead body.” At this time, a medical examiner is reportedly working to determine if the infant was stillborn or if an external factor caused the child’s death, to which additional charges could be filed against the 17-year-old.
Per Fox 5 Atlanta, police have asserted that Rodriguez gave birth to a baby boy in her home on Sunday, November 24. Subsequently, Rodriguez allegedly placed the infant inside a blanket and then inside a grocery bag. Furthermore, authorities believe the 17-year-old allegedly did this in an attempt to “conceal his death.”
After six hours, Rodriguez allegedly dug a hole by a tree in her backyard. At that point, a family member reportedly “caught her digging [the] hole” and called the police.
During a press conference on Monday, November 25, Marietta Police Officer Chuck McPhilamy informed the public that once police arrived at the residence, they found the infant dead. Additionally, the child was “clearly injured.” Per Fox 5 Atlanta, Rodriguez allegedly used a pocket knife to abuse the infant’s body.
As The Shade Room previously reported, in October, a former student of the University of Tampa was arrested. The woman, named Brianna Moore, was accused of giving birth in her dorm room and throwing her child in the trash.
At the time, Moore was hit with multiple charges. This reportedly included aggravated assault of a child, child neglect, and others.
