Have you ever lived in a city where you’re used to rushing all the time like New York or D.C.? Rushing is done out of convenience, but sometimes we lose a sense of awareness of the people around us. What I mean is that even though it takes a second to acknowledge someone with a smile or a “hello” we still don’t do it, because we’re so wrapped up in ourselves and what we need to get accomplished.

That is why Thomas C. Knox created Date While You Wait. He says it was, “essentially an idea to connect people” and that they wanted to “bring people together to communicate.” Knox has a cute little table set at the 34th St.

He’s set up at the 34th St. subway station in NYC with a very nostalgic coke bottle complete with a fresh-cut flower and a game of connect four. From there, anyone, man or woman, can join him in the few minutes that they have until the train arrives. Knox says it doesn’t have to be romantic at all and most people choose to just talk about their day as they’re playing their game.

Even Howard Wexler, the inventor of Connect Four, approved of his social experiment after seeing his feature in the New York Times and decided to partner with him! In the video, he sits down and plays a game with Knox. What an honor!
