A man was hospitalized after being shot by a police officer outside of the Dallas Love Field Airport early Friday afternoon.
According to The New York Times, the victim was reportedly involved in a domestic dispute where he was apparently throwing rocks at a woman who is assumed to be the mother of his children. When the officer attempted to intervene the result ended with the man being sent to the hospital with multiple gun shot wounds.
Assistant Chief Randall Blankenbaker of the Dallas Police Department’s Investigations Bureau says that the officer tried to get the man to back off “but the individual came toward him again, and so he discharged his weapon a number of times.”
Video had hit social media as first word of the shooting. In it you can see the police yelling at the man (who was out of the camera view) to get back before letting off nine shots outside of the crowded airport.
The shooting officer has reportedly been placed on routine administrative leave, according to the police chief. The airport was not immediately locked down however passengers were startled and clearly disturbed by the shooting but normal activity has since been resumed.
The man’s condition isn’t immediately clear and police are still investigating. We will keep you updated.
