2 Dead, 15 Injured In Shooting Outside Kansas City Nightclub

Tragedy struck Kansas City, Missouri over the weekend when a gunman opened fire inside a local nightclub and killed two bystanders and injured 15 others.

Among the victims was a 25-year-old woman who was killed at nightclub on January 19th when a gunman fired off several shots before he was ultimately killed by a security guard, local authorities confirmed. The shooting happened outside the 9ine Ultra Lounge, where several hundred people had gathered, celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs’ American Football Conference championship and the news that the team would partake in its very first Super Bowl in 50 years.

Kansas City Police Chief Richard Smith stated that police were already on high alert when the shooting happened because extra police were assigned to overtime shifts due to the weekend NFL game and the celebrations that knowingly would follow. He confirmed that police officers checked the 9ine Ultra Lounge parking lot less than a minute before the shooting started at 11:27PM.

The alleged gunman, Jahron Swift, 29, of Kansas City, reportedly got into a verbal altercation inside the club and once he went outside, began shooting people who were in a line waiting to get in. Smith identified the victim killed in the shooting as 25-year-old Raven Parks. The club security guard heard the gunshots, went outside, confronted the gunman and killed him.

Most of those injured were immediately taken to local hospitals in private cars, three of those injured were initially in critical condition.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas had this to say about the tragic incident:

“We’re here today because something happened last night that marred what was an exciting night, a euphoric night for the people of Kansas City. First of all, this city will never stand for this type of gun violence. We will continue to try to stop it before it starts and we’ll make sure that with any investigation we’re bringing folks to justice. We’ve said a few times that it is an epidemic of gun violence. We’re losing too many lives. We have too many people shot each year.”

We send the family of the victims and those injured our thoughts prayers.
