Gabby Douglas Breaks Down Over ‘Hurtful’ Comments From Critics

Olympic champion, Gabby Douglas has been on the receiving end of some mean comments from critics about her hair and even her decision to not put her hand over her heart during the recital of the National Anthem. Because of the hurtful words, Douglas has ended her career, perhaps, in hopes that the comments will stop.

When asked about recent backlash from internet trolls, Gabby told reporters, “I tried to stay off the internet because there’s just so much negativity. Either it was about my hair or my hand not over my heart [on the medal podium] or I look depressed… It was hurtful,” she admitted. “It was hurtful. It was. It’s been kind of a lot to deal with.”
After thanking everyone in the press room, Douglas walked down the hallway and cried in a corner with her face to the wall.

Her mother calls the scrutiny bullying and believes that her daughter is afraid to act herself because of it. “What I saw in the stands,” Hawkins said, “was someone who was hurting and she was also angry. What was going through her head was, ‘I’m being attacked for everything I do so I might as well not do anything. Because no matter what I do, I am being attacked. You name it, she got trampled,” Hawkins added. “What did she ever do to anyone?”

This is yet another example of how people will always find something negative to say no matter how amazing you are. Let it be a lesson to all of you to twirl on your haters!
