Cam Newton Gets Benched For Dress Code Violation– Panthers Lose 40-7

Cam Newton has always been the talk of the town in the NFL world but it isn’t always because of his football skills. His choice in fashion has been turning heads as well and while many may laugh it off, this time around it landed him in a bit of trouble.

Cam was benched for Sunday night’s game against the Seahawks after breaking the Panthers’ dress code while on the team’s flight to Seattle. Apparently, coach Ron Rivera has a strict dress code that requires all players to wear a tie. Cam instead had worn a black turtle neck and as a result he was unable to start.

“My decision. Completely my decision,” Rivera said in a press interview. “The decision was made because I treat them all the same.”

The quarterback seem to respect the decision and offered his side of what happened.

“I didn’t follow dress code, and Coach told me I wasn’t going to start. I stand by his decision.”

He attributed the violation to “a lack of communication” on his part. He had supposedly forgotten to pack a collared shirt to take with him on flight and said for a man his size it’s hard to find one last minute. He was forced to wear the turtleneck and unfortunately for him a tie and turtleneck didn’t really mesh and he made the decision to go tie-less.

Newton did throw some slight shade at the decision but still showed that he stood in solidarity with his coach.

“I felt like I wore a similar outfit to this before and nothing was said,” added Newton, “but [Rivera] has rules in place, and I have to abide by them. No person is greater than the next person.”

Well to add insult to injury, his replacement,  Derek Anderson ended up being intercepted on the first play against the Seahawks and eventually lost the game  40 – 7.

Many attributed the loss because of Cam not starting but he thinks otherwise

“We didn’t lose this game because of a tie, you know what I’m saying?” Newton said.

Either way the Panthers have seen a sorry season and will not be in the playoffs. I guess when you’re 4-8 you have room to focus on other things. Welp, lets chat below!
