More chilling details behind the Charleston church mass shooting have been revealed in the mist of Dylann Roof’s murder trial.
Dr. Erin Presnell, the appointed medical examiner, testified about her findings after she performed autopsies on all nine victims. In a slide show, Dr. Presnell detailed that each victim was shot at least 5 times, marking that many had bullet wounds to the arms as if they were trying to shield themselves.
When asked by prosecutors what caused the fatalities, her response was, “multiple gunshot wounds to vital organs” — via The NY Post.
The next step in the case is to call to the stand the surviving victim, Polly Sheppard. The tactic is to prove that Dylann left her alive to send the message that he has killed the other parishioners in retaliation for what Black people have done to whites.
The trial is expected to wrap up soon and Dylann’s sentence on whether or not he will receive the death penalty will be delivered next month.
