Too Far? BBC’s Real HouseWives Of ISIS Skit Meets Mixed Reviews

BBC is catching heat after it’s comedy show “Revolting” aired a satirical skit entitled “The Real Housewives of ISIS.”

The skit, which is about two minutes long, followed four British women married to ISIS extremists and poked fun at what daily life would be like. It begins with one of the wives saying, “It’s only three days till the beheading, and I’ve got no idea what I’m going to wear!”

Another scene features one of the women wearing vest covered in explosives saying, “Ta-da! What do you think? Ahmed surprised with me it yesterday!” Another wife comes in wearing the same vest and the women begin to quarrel about who copied who. The second wife then says, “it’s times like this I wish I never moved out here.”

While it’s supposed to be a comedic spin on Bravo TV’s hit show “The Real Housewives” many people on social media have failed to see the joke, calling the show “tasteless” and “offensive.”

“Not funny at all. With everything going on in the world, I’m sure those who have been effected by Isis, or been victims of them, or the relatives of those killed in terrorists attacks, won’t be laughing,” Anna Butcher wrote on the BBC’s Facebook page in the comments section of the clip.

Another person wrote, “Disgraceful and distasteful. The BBC is normalizing Islamophobia through comedy. It’s also normalizing destruction of war torn Syria.”

While some people were pissed, the show didn’t receive all bad reviews, some actually liked the show.

“Brilliant! Britain got through two world wars and numerous other tragic events by making inappropriate jokes about them, that’s how we deal with things and it’s our prerogative. The ridiculous deserves to be ridiculed, good on the BBC!,” another said on Facebook via the NY Post.

At the end of the day skit’s creators stood behind their creation.

via the Huffington Post:

“It’s important not to pull your punches in satire. You have to be fearless or it undermines your credibility,” comedian Heydon Prowse told the British newspaper i.

You “can’t go after” former U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron for five years like the comedians had on a previous show and not target the Islamic State, Prowse added.

The target is online grooming of girls and young women, co-creator Jolyon Rubinstein said. “It’s about people who are vulnerable to these kind of approaches,” he told i.

The show may be coming back with a second episode as the first skit ended with a sneak peak where one of the wives states that her husband Ali got her a new chain which happened to be an 8-foot-long chain that attached her to the oven. “So I can almost get outside which is great!” she says.
