A Biopic About Angela Davis Is Currently In The Works

It looks like soon we’ll get to see Angela Davis’ story hit the big screen.

According to Variety, Codeblack Films have obtained the movie rights to Davis’ autobiography with plans of developing and producing a biopic.

The film has yet to be titled but Nina Yang Bongiovi has been named as one of the films producers. Other projects she has worked on include “Fruitvale Station” and “Dope”. Sidra Smith, who produced the 2012 documentary “Free Angela And All Political Prisoners,” will also produce along with Codeblack CEO, Jeff Clanagan.

Davis’ niece, Eisa Davis, who was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize will pen the films script and serve as an executive producer alongside her aunt.

Angela Davis, a political activist, gained popularity as a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz. However, she is most known for being the third woman to appear on the FBI’s Most Wanted List.

She was accused of murder, kidnapping and conspiracy during the 1970 Marin County Courthouse hostage taking. Nonetheless, an all white jury acquitted her on all charges in 1972.

With all that has been going on within the African American community, this film definitely sounds appropriate for today’s society.
