Academy President Issues Statement On Oscars Lack Of Diversity

The president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, issued a statement last night via Twitter about the lack of people of color nominated in this years Oscars.

The controversy over the lack of diversity has caused people like Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith to publicly declare that they were going to “boycott” the awards this year.  Issacs was the first black woman appointed as president of the Academy, so there most likely was a feeling of obligation to speak out on the matter.  In her lengthy statement, she made sure to let us know that there must be a change.

She went on to say ” I am both heartbroken and frustrated about the lack of inclusion. This is a difficult but important conversation. And it’s time for big changes.”
